Purchasing Baby Bedding with Care: Vital Details to Consider

The easiest way to design a nursery is to first pick the infant bedding. So you've chosen the whole nursery decor, right down to the stuffed animals that will sit on the dresser... but aren't you forgetting something? When choosing baby bedding there are a lot of things to consider, so make your choice carefully, and keep these things in mind:

- Comfort is very important, so choose 100% cotton or another soft (and preferrably natural) fiber. Flannels or knits are fabulous choices.

- Caring for a new baby is very time-consuming and you won't have time for spot treatments or dry cleaning - so make sure you buy a bedding set that you can wash in the machine!

- Suffocation is a serious concern for young babies, so the first thing to do is make sure the crib sheet fits properly. If you are worried about the fit of your sheets, you can buy elastic straps that clip onto the crib sheet (under the mattress) and hold it in place.

- When buying your baby bedding, you should seriously consider whether or not you need a set. If you want the set to complete the nursery's decor then it mioght still make sense, but soft bedding including comforters should be removed from the crib when your baby is sleeping. Purchasing separates can be smarter and cheaper than buying a bedding set. Buying separates has the added advantage of giving you a lot more freedom in choosing bedding - you can mix and match to get a truly unique look.

- And lastly, when you've taken care of all the more important concerns, consider the look of the bedding, and how it will coordinate with the rest of the nursery.

Buying bedding within your budget can be a concern, but take into account that you may use it longer than you think. If you are using a convertible crib then you can use the same sheets from birth through the end of the toddler years. If you think your family will continue to grow, it's a very smart decision to buy neutral crib bedding like the Vintage baby bedding, so that you can use it again. On the other hand, if you are sure there will be no more babies, or if you like to redecorate frequently, cheaper bedding is probably more cost-efficient. You are definitely going to need more than one set of sheets, so be prepared and buy extras!
