Today there are many reasons why a couple may seek to influence the gender of their next child. Reasons range from trying to balance their family to just a simple preference for one gender. There are things you can do before the mother gets pregnant in order to influence the baby's gender, keep in mind that gender selection is a very personal decision and not one that should be judged by others.
For centuries there have been stories told of how to determine or control a baby's gender and certainly many of these stories were not based in any scientific fact or understanding of the process of conception. It was a wide belief that women picked the gender of their baby because they are the ones that could carry life. It was believed that the baby was made the way she was according to something in the woman's insides. But of course today doctors know that the chromosomes that determine a baby's gender are carried in the sperm from the father, so the baby being a boy or girl will be because of the father's "contribution" and not the mother at all.
The father really has little input when it comes to controlling or even influencing what gender the baby will be.
Rather the best method to do this is to think of the sperm that has the Y chromosome for the male moves faster but it is destroyed more rapidly in contrast to the X chromosome for females that moves slower but it survives longer. This means that "boy sperm" travel faster but die quicker than "girl sperm" which are slower but live longer. The PH of the vagina can either destroy or protect sperm; the PH that has more alkalinity will protect sperm and this can be a factor in the baby's gender "Boy sperm" thrive in this environment and have a greater chance to reach the ovum to fertilize it. Vaginal pH that is more acidic will kill these more delicate sperm and give the "girl sperm" more of a chance to reach an egg to fertilize.
There is absolutely no proven method to ensure your choice of a baby's gender. Even scientific methods used during in vitro fertilization is not completely dependable when it comes to a baby's gender, so always be prepared for either a boy or a girl!
