Have you ever thought about teaching your baby in the use of Sign Language? It truly is a terrific idea. Not only will it enhance the bonding between yourself and your baby, but a baby can learn Sign Language much earlier than he or she can speak words – sometimes by several months! Wouldn’t it be great to cut down on the baby’s frustration and tantrums at home? It can make your life easier by enabling your baby to “speak” to you in Sign.

Say that your ten-month-old is thirsty and wants milk, not juice and not water. The young one begins to fuss. You begin the ritual of checking the status of the diaper; checking to see whether child has a fever; removing objects from the baby bag item by item, repeating in increasing frustration “Is it this?” You even offer the baby a bottle of juice – but the little one wails in disappointment and frustration when he or she realizes that the bottle contains a drink that he or she affirmatively does NOT want. Now both you and the baby, and everyone else within earshot, are totally frazzled; the baby is drenched in tears, and you yourself aren’t far behind.

All of this disruption can be circumvented, even if the little one is not yet verbal. All the child would need to know, and would have to do, is make a Sign to you that you both recognize, and the result would be instantaneous communicationbetween you and the child. You could go to the refrigerator and get the child the milk, and peace would reign once again. Doesn’t that sound heavenly?

It really is possible!
